Chimney Hill Municipal Utility
District (Chimney Hill MUD), located in Harris,
County was created on September 16, 1976. The District did
not have any residents or a tax rate when it was
first created. A developer owned all property
and planned to build single family homes. By the
end of 1978, there were approximately 200 homes
in the District. The District now has 1,744
single family connections consisting of three
subdivisions; Chimney Hill, Sections 1-5;
Eldridge Meadow, Sections 1-3 and Westbrook
Lakes, Sections 1-2.
The District also consists of an elementary
school, two shopping centers, two manufacturing
/ office / warehouse facilities, three daycare
centers, one bank, two restaurants, two gas
stations / convenience stores and one office
building. The District first levied a tax in
1977, at which time the rate was $1.05 per $100
of assessed value. The highest tax rate occurred
in 1989 and 1990, which the tax rate was $1.94
per $100 of assessed value. The combined debt
service and maintenance tax rate for the 2005
tax year was the lowest it has ever been, $0.95
per $100 of assessed value.
It is the responsibility of Chimney Hill MUD
Board of Directors with the help of our
Consultants, to conduct all business of the
District including but not limited to the

water supply to our customers.

of the District.
Provide quality service and
Ensure system capacity
Chimney Hill MUD has established agreements with
two Municipal Utility District’s to provide
additional water to its customers in the event
of an emergency.
Chimney Hill MUD’s water is provided from one
(1) District well or from the City of Houston.
In addition to providing water and waste water
services, the District has contracted with the
Harris County Sheriff’s Department to provide
security to the District.
